2025 Blog Retrospective and Happy New Year
2025 Blog Retrospective and Happy New Year
Happy New Year! As 2025 wraps up and we step into 2026, it feels like the perfect time to look back — not just at the year itself, but at how well I stuck to my goal of publishing four blog posts a month.
So, how did that go? It wasn’t easy at times I definitely hit a few bouts of writer’s block but I managed to hit the target for 11 out of 12 months and overall reached the magic number: 48 posts. Maybe even a little over, if we’re being honest. It was more of a guideline than a strict rule anyway.
This post is part reflection, part stats breakdown. Let’s dig into the numbers, do a bit of a retrospective, and highlight what I think were some of my best posts of the year. First up: the 2025 overview.
2025 Retrospective
My goal was four posts per month, totalling 48 posts for the year. Here’s the month-by-month breakdown of my output in 2025:
| Month | Posts Published | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| January | 3 | Started just shy of the goal. No unfinished drafts. |
| February | 4 | Job done! |
| March | 4 | Amazing. |
| April | 6 | Show off! |
| May | 4 | Spring in your step. |
| June | 4 | Underbaked, but I did have something in the oven. |
| July | 4 | Dense month thanks to two longer pieces. |
| August | 4 | No more summer, but still warm. |
| September | 4 | Back to school. |
| October | 5 | Do you want a medal? |
| November | 7 | Falling into place. |
| December | 5 | Winter is coming so are the posts. |
| Total for 2025 | 54 | Tribute to all the hours of work. |
I finished with a total of 54 posts, passing my target by 3 and it also means I crossed the big 500-post milestone overall. Which I hit in November. I consider that a huge success. The over-performance in April, October, and November more than made up for the occasional dips.
Overall, I’m focusing more on quality over raw numbers these days, and I’m proud of what I released. It hasn’t always been easy sailing, but the effort’s paid off.
(Current update: as I write this, January 2026 is already off to a strong start with four pieces penned including this one!)
A Look Back at the Archives: Posts Per Year
I started this blog back in July 2015, not having a clue what I was doing just wanting to mess around and post some basic stuff. I kept it running as an outlet, and through the chaotic years that followed, it’s been useful. My own little corner of the internet. Under my domain, with me in charge — which is saying something these days, when so much of the web feels out of your control.
This reflection gives me a chance to see how far I’ve come. Let’s look at the numbers per year.
I’ve compiled the monthly totals into a yearly breakdown. You can see my posting inconsistency (maybe I should do a deeper dive into the type of content I was posting too). I’ve also highlighted any big months along the way.
| Year | Total Posts Published | Notes on Consistency & Massive Months |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | 54 | Hit the target! Highs: April (6), October (6), November (5). |
| 2024 | 45 | Now back on form — November (11). Worth looking at what I posted here. |
| 2023 | 39 | Slowly ramping up again. Shoutout to July (8). |
| 2022 | 27 | Getting back on form with October (6) and June (6). |
| 2021 | 22 | The “Covid years” were tough on consistency. Lockdowns and such. |
| 2020 | 5 | Ah, hello depression my old friend. |
| 2019 | 23 | Back on form (sort of). Highs: March (9), February (5). |
| 2018 | 5 | Another depression year. |
| 2017 | 36 | Big decline, though October (16) was the standout month. Worth revisiting. |
| 2016 | 134 | A year of pure volume — highs: September (25). Definitely worth checking what was going on here. |
| 2015 | 101 | Year one — just six months of posting, but December (26) went wild. |
Grand Total (Published): 510
An incredible run of public content over the years! (Note: my overall output — including pages, drafts, and over 150 binned posts is significantly higher.)
It’s probably worth looking into what sort of content drove those spikes. I have a feeling I already know why certain numbers are higher than others. I haven’t included the static pages I’ve made either, which would push the total even higher.
Based on my rough maths, I’ll hit 500 in November yes, sorry, spoiler: I’m writing this in the past, but it’s being published in the future. Beats writer’s block; I’m just writing ahead of it. Over 500 posts across ten years that’s an average of 50 per year. Not bad at all. Now time to look at the favourites of 2025.
Favourite posts of 2025
Going over 2025, I decided to pick a bit of variety when it comes to posts.
I’m quite happy with Democratic Dilemma. Looking back, I should have made one point more strongly — in an age where liberalism is being dismantled and illiberal ideas are rising. Not fascism, but something along that spectrum. Hindsight is 20/20.
The UK Constitution post was dense and heavily researched. Safe to say I’d probably redo it to be less heavy and easier to follow. I do think I may have over-explained things a bit — it took me a very long time to write.
My Pride Month Reflection was personal, and honestly, I enjoyed writing that one a lot.
The Writer’s Block confessional — the title could have been better, probably just Confession. It was the first time I really pulled back the curtain and talked about what I was working on and what I wanted to achieve this year.
The last two posts were gaming-related. The Xbox one I was really happy with, and the TimeSplitters Rewind piece was about a game I’ve always loved. I was genuinely curious to see what happened with that title after so long.
- The Democratic Dilemma: Resist or Radicalize? March 14th
- Reimagining the UK Constitution April 14th
- Pride Month Reflections June 20th
- Writer’s Block Confessional Aug 15th
- Xbox Game Pass: From Dream Deal to Business Model Disaster Oct 11th
- TimeSplitters Rewind Gets a Release Date — 13 Years in the Making Nov 23rd
Before diving into the archive, I’ve been thinking about revisiting some of my older posts this time, intending to make them better. The obvious starting point would be the UK Constitution piece, which I think deserves some major changes. Maybe even a wider, bullet-point-style post on what I think needs to happen next.
I’m not sure yet no promises but it’s definitely been on my mind.
Time to look into the past, then, and revisit what I still think are some of my best posts.
Favourite posts from the archive
Time to dig into the archive. For anyone curious, yes, this does take a bit of work. I can vaguely remember writing some of these posts, and anything that jumps out at me, I’ll highlight. It’s going to be weird reading my old work. There’s a degree of naivety in some of them, but I can also see how much I’ve improved as a writer, leaving ideas hanging less often. Well, I think so anyway.
There are quite a few years to cover, really. So here’s what I found. Quite a few politics posts in there not surprising, I suppose. The Brexit years between 2016 and 2021 definitely radicalised me a bit. Some of the points I made still hold up today. You can see my frustration with politics back then. I’m sort of proud of some of my insight not perfect, but genuine. And I’m still quite happy with the research and knowledge that went into them. You can tell I wanted to make things work.

The Middle: US Presidential Election – November 7, 2024
Twelve posts in total three from 2024. Two on the US presidential election, and the last one where I slipped in various song titles. The Middle was a reference to the US being at a fork in the road and, yes, the Jimmy Eat World song, a hopeful anthem about staying true to yourself. One was written on the eve of the election, the other in the aftermath, with very little sleep.
Anyway, time to look forward.
The Plan for 2026: Quality and Organisation
So, what’s the plan for 2026?
Well truth be told, im tempted to keep 4 posts per month rhythm as foundation. Throw in a couple more when inspiration strikes. I don’t really have a plan per say. However, a different task has risen to the top of my priority list: site maintenance and organization. Which means tidying things up. Yay backend admin work. Also tempted to go back and revise / improve some older posts maybe revisit them.
My big projects for the new year are:
-
Tidying up categories: Making it easier for you to find the content you’re interested in.
-
Revisiting older content: I’m tempted to revisit and either update or even retire some older, less relevant pages.
-
Investigating the “Massive Months”: I’ll be looking back at October 2017 and November 2024 to see what made them so productive and if I can apply those lessons today.
-
Longer-Form Content: I want to make some longer-form content, including getting around to writing more stories and poems.
-
Gaming Content: I’m considering restarting my Warframe pages and maybe adding some Smite content.
-
Adding Art: I need to figure out how best to add my own artwork here.
So that’s 2025 wrapped up posts written, target hit.
Somehow, this blog that started out as a hobby is still here. I guess that’s what happens when you keep paying the hosting bills.
When I started, blogging was on the way out. Now, for certain topics, it’s quietly returned even as the written word fades under the weight of video. There’s still a place for writing, though a space for people who just want to read and think.
I’ve spent years filling this small patch of the internet. Sometimes ranting, sometimes reflecting, always learning. It’s not big, but it’s mine and I still care enough to keep writing.
If you’ve read any of it, thank you for sticking around.
I don’t know what 2026 will bring, but I plan to keep going a small light in the dark.
Cheers to 500 posts (well, 511 now). Onwards to the rest of 2026, I guess.
