A great big world are American duo. Writing a massive hit that was performed on Glee. By total accident I found them by Amee Wilson known as the Queer chameleon. She does have another account. Finding her on Tik tok, before following her on everything else. Everybody is gay is rather cheerfully song. Recently the background for one of her videos, full version behind.
Adorable gay rights anthem that catchy. I can’t stop smiling listening to this song. As a bonus treat here another good gay song. Hayley Kiyoko lyrics can be found here.
David Bowie is a British musical icon, with decades worth of music. Creating music for every decade, artists rarely change their style. Bowie, on the other hand, was a king of reinvention. Artists rarely take risks but Bowie took risks. My parents shared David’s music, with me. And I remember pirating his music.
Lazarus was the last single released before David Bowie’s death in 2016. Therefore the lyrics took on a new meaning, Blackstar was meant to be a swan song Ablum. Tony Visconti producer for Blackstar has confirmed this.
Every song has lyrics that revolve around death. Lazarus’s music video makes death the clear theme.
Look up here, I’m in heaven
I’ve got scars that can’t be seen
I’ve got drama, can’t be stolen
Everybody knows me now
Look up here, man, I’m in danger
I’ve got nothing left to lose
I’m so high it makes my brain whirl
Dropped my cell phone down below
Ain’t that just like me?
By the time I got to New York
I was living like a king
There I’d used up all my money
I was looking for your ass
This way or no way
You know, I’ll be free
Just like that bluebird
Now, ain’t that just like me?
Oh, I’ll be free
Just like that bluebird
Oh, I’ll be free
Ain’t that just like me?
The first paragraph is Bowie talking about already being dead. Talking about his cancer, how famous he is. The second paragraph makes clear his cancer is winning, nice bit of humour to end it. The third paragraph talks about moving to new york, and the problems with being rich. One or two lines that I don’t understand the meaning of. He ends the song talking about being free, almost like he accepts dying and death. Therefore final line is his goodbye to his fans.
This is one of my favourite songs on the album. Every time I listen to David Bowie’s music he reminds me of my mum. She was the one who recommended him. I have some great memories of singing songs with her, including David. Growing up I never used to sing that much.
David Bowie left behind a vast collection of music. Covering different genres across the ages. For me, Lazarus has helped me with grief. Makes me remember even in the end we still have the desire to keep going.
Last night I watched Star wars force awakens or was it, shareholders.
Never been a massive star wars fan, always enjoyed the movies. A family-friendly movie which covers many adult themes in a light mannered way. Creating a massive franchise which impacted the pop culture for decades to come. Spawning a successful movie franchise bringing in billions of revenue. The Walt Disney Company took over the Star Wars license in 2012. Star wars force awakens was the first in new trilogies planned by Disney.
First time watching Force awakens feels like a tribute to the other trilogies. Nothing feels new, unlike every other star wars movie. Touching the same old parts of the universe with fan favourites. Not a fan of the story or structure of the movie. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is better in terms of world building. The story is better expanding on a major event from the original trilogy. Fanservice in rogue one does not feel forced unlike force awakens. Force awakens is not a bad movie, like the prequels feel unnecessary. Could argue that prequels are far stronger expanding the star wars universe. Many fans dislike the prequels.
The story is all over the place new star wars era is not explained. Major plot elements are ignored and never explained. The Phantom Menace everything is explained even in a new era. The current struggle is not explained by Republic or first order.
Personally not looking forward to more star wars movies unless they change the direction and shape.
I wanted to like the live-action version of death note. Now I want to forget about it completely. Lacks the vision to do something interesting with the source material. Ignores the source material only borrowing the basics elements. Tension at the heart of the story is ignored. Detailed complex characters are diluted down.
The story feels half-baked does not do anything. Understand that the source material is not easy to convert to the big screen. Writers could use some liberty crafting a new story from the source material. Keep the basic elements behind it and tension. Live action version throws out the tension between L and Light Yagami. Ignores most of the story decides to create its own ending. A story is loosely based on the source material. Fails to create a compelling story compared to the original.
The original story was about Light, trying to mould the world in his vision. Killing criminals building a detailed process. Attention to detail trying to outsmart the police and L. Another death note user is able to track light, light ends up using her. A massive amount of time is spent L against Light. Light trying to catch himself by staying close to L. Ending is a showdown between Light and L. Tension during the whole show as the stakes build over time. Builds up each character even the more minor ones.
Live action story Light moulds the world based on a love interest who only wants the death note. No conflict between L and light. Light saves himself by killing off his love interest. Confesses to his cop dad after almost killing himself.
Ye not much ground is covered in the live action version. Most of the elements which make the story is ignored. First 10 minutes failed to get you hooked or interested in light. And the story is based in America not the Japan like the original. Could forgive that choice if they did anything with that new location. Nothing is done with the story changes and nothing done with the story choices. Failure to adapt the story to the longer movie format. Lack of tension makes the story feel empty.
