Chroma: Malnourished dragon

Chroma: Malnourished dragon

TL;DR

Chroma has a problem: other Warframes offer better survivability, status immunity, and utility. With the Helminth system, that is really easy to achieve on almost anyone. As a weapons platform he performs okay, but plenty of other frames can match or exceed what this elemental dragon brings to the table. That is a major issue for the developers, and while he desperately needs a rework, several other frames are higher priority, so there is no hint of one coming for this very old frame. The golden age of the dragon is firmly over. He is fine, but definitely on the weaker end of things, buffing weapons and not offering much else. It is such a cool concept that feels largely wasted. In terms of elements, Heat and Toxin are your best bets, while the rest are much weaker. There is a niche credit farming build you can run, but his standard setup is barely passable. I have mostly retired Chroma from active use, as even the content he used to excel at has moved on.

Weakness: Lack of status immunity, utility, and actual survivability despite having high base stats on paper. Anything that nullifies his abilities is a major problem since it completely resets his buffs. The only real upside is that as a pure weapons platform, he does not have to worry about enemies immune to ability damage.

Archon Shards

Crimson shards for Power Strength are standard, though I am honestly debating removing them. It is really hard to justify using top tier shards on him when other frames get far more value out of them. I do run one Azure Armor Shard to reach the threshold required for a specific Arcane, which I will touch on below.

Build

This build is all about papering over the cracks. We run the Guardian Armor augment to grant healing and increase the duration of Vex Armor. A full Umbral mod set is used alongside Primed Flow, primarily so Chroma remains usable if you get stuck with him in Deep Archimedea or Temporal Archimedea when randomness isn’t on your side. Aside from that, we stack duration using Narrow Minded, plus Blind Rage and Hunter Adrenaline. Heat is the main element of choice here.

Arcanes

Arcane Blessing paired with Arcane Battery. Battery only reaches its maximum value if you hit 1,400 Armor, which the Azure Armor Shard allows you to achieve. It is worth pointing out that due to his complete lack of status immunity, he still does not feel particularly tanky at higher levels.

Helminth

Due to how the helminth system works, we’re limited in what we can use here. Nourish is the best and only choice. Hence why I have called this malnourished.

Other Things

Wyrm is essential to provide some much needed status immunity via Negate. The rest of the loadout follows a standard weapons platform setup, using weapons like the Tazicor for prime status application. Bring your absolute best weapons to carry the load; running standard Corrosive and Heat setups allows you to brute force content. Pick strong options for your primary and secondary, and run a Melee Influence setup on your melee weapon.

Closing Thoughts

As a weapons platform, Chroma is deeply flawed. He technically does the job, but he feels exceptionally lacking in core areas. Being just okay is not good enough anymore when other options perform so much better. There are certainly worse frames in the game, but he is long overdue for some serious love and care. Needs a serious and big rework.
