Nick Fury is resurrected due to the blip. He relocated to the SABER space station, spent a year in space and Talos a Skrull was tasked with impersonating Nick on earth. Talos contacted Nick telling him about trouble on Earth that needed his attention. The secret invasion starts after that phone call, he is informed about a possible Skrull problem. Meeting with Talos he soon told that 1 million are among humans. Blip allowed them to slip onto Earth undetected. A terrorist faction wants to take over the earth and settle here.
Here is the first major flaw, we only see a small group of supporters and the scale is tiny compared to what we are told. Trust me it’s “really big what happening here” An idea that the group wants to remake the world or war is laughable. Invasion goes from unsettling to an underwhelming revenge story with Fury and some Skrull. Instead, the focus appears to be revenge on Fury from a random Skrull. Quickly things move towards a global possible nuclear and moves to another global stake plotline with limited payoff. Characters don’t care about the plot or important events and the audience ends up not caring too. Fails to capture that and make it matter. Two characters die and Nick Fury just moves on to the next thing.
Spy thriller looks like a ball of yarn unravelling within minutes. Just ends up being a disappointing mess and boring.
In the comic, the storyline took years to build. 6 hours to tell even this simple story is not long enough. Coming off the back of Endgame just poor timing to try and do a story like this. To make matters worse it is not a very tight plot at all. Maybe it bit unfair but writers are not comic book lovers. Loads of ways you could have approached this story with the idea trust nobody. Speaking of which that idea has been done in MCU and way better in every single movie.
Does have one or two good moments, but so many mediocre ones in between. Bright side Oliver Coleman’s performance is great for the script. Samuel Jackson is a bright star with a dull story. Don Cheadle’s talent is wasted in the MCU.
You can skip this series and be fine. Honestly Disney it is time to take a serious look at what you have been producing and slow down. Take some risks with your TV shows and reduce how much content your output until the quality returns.
