Music Monday: Golden by Huntrix (from K-Pop: Demon Hunters)
I have a small confession to make: I haven’t actually watched K-Pop: Demon Hunters. I’m not a big fan of musicals, so I wasn’t sure if it would be my thing. But after finding out that “Golden” by Huntrix comes from the movie, I think I might have to give it a go. Somehow, this track found its way onto my radar, which is rare these days. It’s one of those small cultural moments where a song just spreads across the entire ecosystem, and suddenly everyone is hearing it.
The movie was a Netflix release made by Sony, and it somehow became a massive hit. K-Pop has been a major force for a while now, and this feels like the culmination of that. I don’t have much to say about the song other than the fact that it is incredibly catchy. It’s an interesting track because it’s performed by a group of singers—EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami—who had never really worked together before and were brought together specifically for the film.
Sony clearly knew they had a hit on their hands when the soundtrack dropped. It is an incredibly well-refined, “processed” song. While it definitely feels produced, there is still some soul to it, even if it feels a bit artificial at times. As a K-Pop song, it’s managed to reach the ears of people who normally wouldn’t listen to the genre. It’s just a piece of pop songwriting done exceptionally well, and it goes to show how global culture has truly become.
People have already started covering and remixing it, and it has a really positive energy as a song. The question on my mind is: will we get another summer anthem as catchy as this one this year? It’s not my favorite bit of music, but I’ll be honest—sometimes you look out for things you don’t normally listen to and it just catches your ear. Bet you didn’t see me including this for this month’s theme, did you!
