Music Monday: Dragula by Zob zombie
Music Monday: Dragula by Rob Zombie
Halloween music, okay, the theme here is obvious. Gives me an excuse to bring back Music Monday. Seasonal music has always been a thing. This one is that around 2 weeks near the holiday. Which is quite short compared to say Christmas which is like what a 1 month and bit. Halloween has a bit of crossover with goth music. I did some researching and found out blues music heavily influenced this genre early on. Which is weird but I can see the connection.
The Cinematic Shift
In 1970s and 1980s, horror films being associated with the holiday. Here we start the musical journey I guess. In the 90s and 2000s slasher films had major slump. Before recovering in 2010s mid period and slump 2020s mid ones before success. Well some had success but never reached the same heights. Smaller budget movies found success big budget ones less so.
That said influence of these 70s and 80s films remains big on the music. Expanding from its blues roots, more electronic music based on 80s. Rock and more. Still music genre has outgrown its roots really. Okay I’m just padding things.
The Spooky Staple
Rob Zombie has been a staple for spooky season. With goth style music. Horror themed hits are backbone to his work. Industrial metal which I don’t think I talked about so far.
Track wanted to showcase is Dragula. Very well known song and his most iconic track. Also most obvious one related to the holiday. It is a song came out in 1998. Yet it sounds so timeless. Mix of various different things together. Synth 80s and more. Throwback to older 1980s horror movies.
Debut solo single from Rob. As a song I like the metal but don’t know what genre it is. Can’t remember when I first heard it. But I do know it was not the first song I heard from him. Artwork with sound still just hits the mark. Some bits of music that work. I can’t think of any artists like Rob that exist. None that have broken into mainstream. I do know synthwave has found success with horror themed songs. Yet horror related music seems to be very niche.
