Music Monday: Digital Love by Daft Punk

Music Monday: Digital Love by Daft Punk

This Music Monday I wanted to go with a love or heartbreak theme. Now, I could have searched up any old song, written a few lines about it, and half-arsed it. I’m not going to do that. Instead, I’m going to stare at my screen going “OH GOD WHY DID I PICK THIS TO WRITE.”

I normally don’t listen to love songs, which makes this post even harder. While I was working on a different music piece, I remembered a song, which got me thinking about what I ended up writing about here. The seed was planted. I’ve sort of broken the 4th wall a bit, talking about a post that could be in the future, past, or present. Confused? So am I.

With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, this is how I ended up deciding on the song for today. The pickle is finding a song I actually know, or listening to one I don’t know that actually fits. The hunt for a positive tune began.

Okay, a bit of a curveball, but it’s Digital Love by Daft Punk. Not a classic love ballad, but it’s still a love song nonetheless. Daft punk has always been a favorite of mine. Not sure if people know this, but I do like synth music. It reminds me of somebody who indirectly inspired this post and whom I loved very dearly. I’ll write more about their influence later. The format for these posts isn’t settled yet; it’s been a bit of a journey so far.

Ooh, I don’t know what to doAbout this dream and youI wish this dream comes true

Let’s start with the basic technical stuff. It’s dance/electronic with a very heavy synth vibe; it feels very much from the era it comes from. You can hear that early 2000s sound, with the influence of the 90s creeping in and some very 80s sounds happening too. It all about unspoken love, longing, and desire.

It also contains a solo—something that was already disappearing from music back then and has pretty much disappeared now. As we move into 2026, songs have become shorter and shorter, often starting with lyrics almost immediately. You don’t really see these long, instrumental builds or solos anymore. Shame really cos I love detailed messy technically heavy songs.

This album (Discovery) is also the soundtrack for the anime musical Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem. It’s so good that I can still vividly remember the music video and the film while listening to it.

It’s a positive synth-pop song with a danceable tune. You can’t help but move your hands or feet to it. I don’t have much else to say, apart from the fact that it’s just a feel-good song about love and longing.
