Poem: Artist Pride
Artist Pride
Why did you not tell me?
Because one was never ready to
It is a journey, a vulnerable one
Letting guard down whilst you’re not ready
But when the artist is ready, you see the rainbows
Hidden in plain sight
Colours flowing on every street, some don’t fit a binary
Not misfits, just sometimes don’t fit into boxes
Not something to protest but be proud of
Against the backdrop I never truly saw myself
Still don’t see me filled in the painting
Never wanted the extra grief, I knew support existed like a frame
Never wanted it to define and frame me, to be misunderstood
I never noticed until I thought about it
Erasure that exists, a core part of the world
How we never ask that question, going straight to the binary
Long road ahead so no more punches
To be seen, to share this magic, the love
Everybody has a space to be an artist.
